Join us for a lively tour of two exceptional exhibitions currently at the recently remodeled Crocker Museum. Nancy Tingley will take us through the Nepal exhibition – 40 diverse Buddhist and Hindu works illustrating the brilliant art and artisanship of the Newaris. A full-color catalog accompanies this important show. After lunch in the attractive museum Café, Curator William Breazeale will guide us through a selection from the Crocker's early and fine collection of master drawings. This exhibition consists of forty-five of the most handsome works in the collection, dating from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries.
Travel on your own, carpooling is suggested. Please check the Crocker Museum website: www.crockermuseum.org
Nancy Tingley is well known to SAA audiences as the former Paul L. and Phyllis Wattis Curator of Southeast Asian Art at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Among her recent curatorial triumphs are "Arts of Ancient Viet Nam" (Asia Society, New York, 2009) and "Buddhas" (Crocker Museum, 2009). She also wrote "Doris Duke: The Southeast Asian Art Collection" (Dallas Museum, 2003).
William Breazeale joined the Crocker in 2005. He is a 2003–04 recipient of the Fulbright Full Grant for Study in Italy. His interest in drawing and collecting history led to 2010's A Pioneering Collection exhibition/catalogue project for the Crocker.
