The Mughal World
This course will cover aspects of the Mughal World, with each session focusing on one of the following: the politics of the empire, religion, art, architecture, women, and literary cultures. We are fortunate to have Professor Faruqui, an authority on the Mughal Empire and a 2014 recipient of UC Berkeley’s Distinguished Teaching Award, teaching this course. Course meets on Sundays: September 7, 14, 21, 28, and October 12
Munis Faruqui is a historian and Associate Professor in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies at UC Berkeley, focusing on the Muslim experience in South Asia, especially during the Mughal period. He is the author of Princes of the Mughal Empire (2012), and co-editor of Expanding Frontiers in South Asian and World History (2013) and Religious Interactions in Mughal India (forthcoming fall 2014). In fall 2008 he taught “Travel & Encounter: The World of Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta” for the Literature and Culture course.
